/ GC Algorithms for the Cloud

Description

ZGC, Serial, Parallel, CMS, G1GC, C4, LXR, Shenandoah, OH MY! There’s many options for a Garbage Collector in the JVM today. With more Java apps already on, or moving to the cloud, what is the best GC to use? The answer: it depends! In this session, we’ll quickly review GC and memory usage in the JVM, then dive into scenarios where certain GC’s would be better than others: Are your apps long lived or short lived? Running Big Data infrastructure like Kafka, Elastic, Cassandra, etc? Deploying Cloud Functions? What about the JIT that optimizes your code… what role does that play? Along the way, we’ll talk about the experimental GC called LXR. We will also discuss other JVM tips for the cloud to get the most efficiency with stable throughput, and lower cloud infrastructure.

Session 🗣 Advanced ⭐⭐⭐ Track: Java & JVM (core frameworks & libraries, Kotlin, Scala, Groovy, Architecture)
